Can Eli top Peyton?
February 05, 2012 15:56:50 UK
Eli Manning goes for his second Super Bowl victory on Sunday at the Lucas Oil Stadium, the house that Peyton built.
Overshadowed all week by speculation in Indianapolis concerning whether Peyton Manning will return to the Colts, become a free agent or retire because of a neck injury, Eli has quietly gone about his business secure in the knowledge that even with a loss he still ties his brother's record of one victory and one defeat in the Super Bowl.
Should the New York Giants prevail then Eli starts to become a legitimate candidate for the Hall of Fame, where he would join Peyton who is expected to be enshrined in his first year of eligibility.
Following his brother's reputation has always been the younger Manning's lot in life. While Peyton created a spectacular legacy for himself at the University of Tennessee there were whispers that there was another Manning who was even better.
Not many believed it. When Eli decided to attend Ole Miss, the alma mater of his famous father Archie, Peyton was taking the NFL by storm as the top pick in the draft.
Six years later Eli was also the first overall pick in the draft, the first brothers to be selected as such and with a win on Sunday Eli and Peyton are likely to be the first brothers in the Hall of Fame.
The Patriots are 1.68 to win the Super Bowl, with the Giants 2.25, while Manning is 2.88 to be named MVP.
