James Shields (16-12) pitched a strong 8 2-3 innings as the Tampa Bay Rays knocked off the New York Yankees 5-2.
Kyle Farnsworth recorded his 24th save of the season inducing rookie pinch-hitter Jesus Montero to ground out to third for the one-out close.
Shields, who has gone at least seven innings in each of his last 11 starts, gave up the two New York runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four to avenge a loss to the Yankees last time out.
BJ Upton and Matt Joyce each had two hits for the Rays and Kelly Shoppach went yard for his 11th of the year as part of a nine-hit attack.
Hector Noesi (2-2) was sent to the mound for a spot start by the Yankees with Phil Hughes moved to the bullpen in preparation for the post-season. Hughes would be the third of six pitchers used by New York blanking the Rays in 1 2-3 innings of work.
The Texas Rangers are 1.80 to win the World Series, while the Boston Red Sox are 301.00, the Philadelphia Phillies 301.00 and the New York Yankees 301.00.
