Royals trade Cabrera

The Kansas City Royals have traded starting outfielder Melky Cabrera to the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Jonathan Sanchez.
The Royals also receive minor league pitcher Ryan Verdugo as part of the deal, but this is a move clearly designed to open up space for one of their top prospects to play every day in the Kansas City outfield.
Lorenzo Cain, the center piece in the trade of former American League Cy Young award winner Zack Greinke to the Milwaukee Brewers last winter, appears to be the primary beneficiary of the move after a great minor league year in center field at Triple-A Omaha.
The Royals also have converted catcher Wil Myers, their top overall prospect, now playing in the outfield and both Cain and Myers have been mentioned prominently in trade talks with the Atlanta Braves for right-hander Jair Jurrjens.
Sanchez represents a good stop-gap for the Royals as they wait for Jake Odorizzi and Mike Montgomery to step up to the big club. The left handed Sanchez has electric stuff, once throwing a no-hitter for the Giants, but has never got over his tendency to walk too many batters.
The Royals are 151.00 to win the 2012 World Series, while San Francisco are 29.00.
