Nelson Cruz hit another home run.Nelson Cruz hit his sixth home run of the series and Michael Young drove in five as the Rangers clinched in six games to move on to the World Series against the winner of the St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers National League Championship matchup.
Derek Holland had a mediocre outing for the Rangers allowing four runs on seven hits, including three home runs, while striking out five over 4 2-3 innings. Alexi Oganso (2-0) picked up the win with a couple of innings of one-hit relief and Neftali Feliz pitched an uneventful ninth to get some work prior to the World Series.
In his short career, Detroit starter Max Scherzer has become known for a quality arm, but with the capacity to occasionally give up the big inning. So it was on Saturday as the 27-year-old was battered for six runs as part of a nine-run Rangers outburst in the third inning that dashed the Tigers' hopes. Miguel Cabrera tried to keep Detroit in the game with two home runs, supported by blasts from Jhonny Peralta and Austin Jackson, but this wasn't to be the Tigers' year.
Rangers are now 1.80 to win the World Series while the Cardinals are 2.05 and the Brewers are 6.50.
