The Texas Rangers' celebrations have been put on ice by a resolute St. Louis. There will be a Game Seven in the World Series after the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Texas Rangers in a wild sixth game.
Twice within a strike of the franchise’s first World Series the Texas Rangers couldn’t close the door and fell 10-9 in the 11th inning of one of the most amazing World Series games in history. David Freese cranked a 3-2 pitch over the wall in the deepest part of the park to send the Busch Stadium crowd into delirium.
The two teams combined for 19 runs, 28 hits and five errors while using 15 pitchers in a contest that also saw the Cardinals score in the eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th innings. Tied 4-4 heading into the seventh inning the Rangers appeared to gain the upper hand when Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz homered back-to-back as part of a three run outburst.
Allen Craig pulled one back in the eighth, but Texas still had a two-run lead and Neftali Feliz on the mound in the ninth. It was not to be as Cruz failed to track down a two-run Freese triple that scored Albert Pujols and Lance Berkman to send the game into extra innings. Josh Hamilton would restore the Rangers two-run lead with a home run to right only to see St. Louis claw their way back. That set the stage for Freese’s heroics in the 11th and Game Seven on Friday.
The Cardinals are 1.75 to secure victory in the money line.
