Maddox in mix for Cubs and Red Sox

Mike Maddox, pitching coach of the Texas Rangers, has emerged as a leading candidate for the vacancies in Boston and Chicago.
A former major league pitcher, Maddox is credited with the improvement in the Rangers staff over the past three years. Prior to joining the Rangers Maddox was the pitching coach of the Milwaukee Brewers after a journeyman career that saw the right hander make his debut in 1986 with the Philadelphia Phillies and then make stops with the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and Montreal Expos before finally finishing his playing career with the Houston Astros in 2000.
Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin and former Brewers manager Dale Sveum have both been connected to the jobs as has Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. Sveum, the current hitting coach in Milwaukee, is the only current candidate with major league managerial experience although Terry Francona recently of the Red Sox is not surprisingly a possibility in Chicago after winning two championships with Epstein in Boston.
The Rangers are 5.00 to win the World Series while the Phillies are 13.00 and the Yankees are 10.50.
