Epstein joins Cubs

Theo Epstein, the general manager who led the Boston Red Sox to their first World Championship in 86 years, has joined the Chicago Cubs.
In a widely anticipated move, the 37-year-old Epstein has been named the president of baseball operations for the Cubs. Epstein's Red Sox assistant Ben Cherington will be named his successor in Boston rather than move on to Chicago. The Red Sox and Cubs still have to finalize the compensation that Boston will receive for letting Epstein leave with a year left on his contract, but the clubs announced Friday that a framework was in place to complete the move.
In a related move, Jed Hoyer, the general manager of the San Diego Padres, is expected to leave that organization to become the new general manager in Chicago with his assistant, former Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes, being elevated in his place. Padres' owner, former agent Jeff Moorad, had appointed Byrnes his general manager in Arizona when a part-owner of the Diamondbacks franchise.
Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers can be backed at 1.36 to win the World Series against the St Louis Cardinals, who are available at 3.25.
