Carpenter and Wilson get the call
October 18, 2011 14:28:57 UK
Chris Carpenter of the St Louis Cardinals and CJ Wilson of the Texas Rangers will get the call in Game One of the World Series.
The Cardinals and Rangers have both set their rotations, with St Louis selecting Carpenter and Jamie Garcia to pitch at home in Busch Stadium while Edwin Jackson and Kyle Lohse will get the call in the first two games at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Texas will counter with free agent to be CJ Wilson followed by Colby Lewis, Derek Holland and Matt Harrison.
The Rangers lack a true ace in the mould of a Cliff Lee who helped lead them to the World Series last season where Texas fell to the eventual champions San Francisco Giants, but the Rangers' top four pitchers are of more even quality than the Cardinals who have Carpenter and a reliance on their bullpen when Garcia, Jackson and Lohse pitch.
The Cardinals are 2.20 to win Game One while Texas can be backed at 1.76. Meanwhile, the Rangers are 1.36 to win the World Series and St Louis are 3.25.
