The St. Louis Cardinals secured their 11th World Series triumph with a 6-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.
Chris Carpenter helped the Cardinals to victory.Allen Craig hit his third home run of the series to lead the Cardinals to the Game Seven win and send the Rangers to defeat for the second straight year. Texas, who were well beaten by the San Francisco Giants last October, came within a strike of victory this season and started brightly in the first inning scoring twice.
Josh Hamilton doubled home and Elvis Andrus and Michael Young followed with an RBI ground-rule double as the Rangers took the quick two-run lead over Chris Carpenter (2-0).
However the Cardinals ace settled down to allow only those two runs on six total hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings.
Arthur Rhodes, Octavio Dotel, Lance Lynn and Jason Motte would hold Texas hitless for the final three innings to secure the victory. Matt Harrison (0-2) went the first four innings for the Rangers giving up three runs on five hits and two walks with a single strike out.
