The St. Louis Cardinals hit home runs early and often for a 12-6 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS.
St. Louis will play the Texas Rangers in the World Series after stunning their National League Central divisional foe four games to two in the best of seven series, with the Cardinals 3.25 to win the World Series and the Rangers 1.36 to be crowned world champions.
David Freese was 3-for-4, including a three-run shot in the first inning and Rafael Furcal and Albert Pujols also went deep for the wild card winning Cardinals.
Marc Rzepczynski (1-0) picked up the win with 2 1-3 innings of relief after St. Louis starter Edwin Jackson had faltered allowing four runs on four hits, including three home runs, while striking out a couple in two innings of work.
Corey Hart, Rickie Weeks and Jonathan Lucroy all hit homers for the Brewers whose big bats, Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder, were silent when it mattered both going 0-for-4 on the night.
Shaun Marcum (0-2) was lifted after the first by Milwaukee conceding four runs on three hits and a walk. Chris Narveson was equally brutal for the Brew Crew surrendering five runs on four hits and a walk over 1 2-3 innings as Milwaukee fell into a 9-4 hole from which they could not recover.
