Ronnie O'Sullivan was pleased to have won his opening match at the UK Championship in York, seeing off six-time champion Steve Davis 6-1.
Ronnie O'Sullivan was far too strong for Steve Davis in York.O'Sullivan is on the hunt for a fifth UK title of his own at the Barbican Centre and his comfortable win over veteran Davis set up a second round clash with either Judd Trump or Dominic Dale.
The Rocket, who has slipped down to number 12 in the world rankings, said after making a winning start: "I made a few decent breaks, all round it was pretty decent.
"When you get some confidence you can get some momentum going. But I'm just glad to be in the next round, it was nice to get a win and get through.
"Steve has got so much class, just the way he hits the ball, but he's probably not playing with as much confidence as he used to. I think that's the key to this game."
Davis felt that his opponent had played well, but rued his own errors, which allowed O'Sullivan to win with relative ease.
He added: "Ronnie was hitting the ball beautifully and I wasn't good enough. When you play against the very top players, you have to be even more perfect because any mistakes are magnified."
O'Sullivan is 1213.00 to win the UK Championship, with reigning champion John Higgins 1213.00 and Mark Selby 1213.00.
