Pitch no concern for Agar

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach Richard Agar insists he's spent very little time worrying about the playing surface at the Stobart Stadium, as he prepares his side for this evening's opening round trip to face Widnes Vikings.
The Widnes pitch was replaced during the close-season by a new artificial surface. The club's plans were given the green light by the RFL, but there is concern in some quarters that the pitch isn't safe and that it could give the Vikings an unfair advantage over their opponents in 2012.

This evening's game is a big one for both teams.

But Wildcats boss Agar has dismissed the gossip, preferring to focus on his own players. His side are 2.00 to win the match, while Widnes are 1.80. A tie can be backed at 19.00.
"I haven't given much consideration or spent too much worrying about the pitch we'll be playing on. It's been passed fit by the RFL and the Widnes players don't seem to have a problem with it. I'm looking forward to seeing first hand what it's like," said Agar.
"This evening's game is a big one for both teams. It's the first round of the new season, which automatically makes it important. But there'll be a lot of new players on show and it's a great chance for them to lay down a marker."
Meanwhile, the Wildcats have handed a new extended contract to young forward Kyle Trout, who has caught the eye during the club's programme of pre-season friendlies.
"I'm delighted to have Kyle signed up. He was already contracted to us but he has impressed me and the rest of the staff enough during the close season to convince us that he's worth a longer deal, and we were happy to give him that."
