No preferential treatment for Veivers

Salford City Reds threequarter Josh Veivers says he isn't expecting preferential treatment at the club, despite his father being head coach.
Veivers has joined Salford from Wakefield and is busy preparing for the Reds' first clash of the season against Castleford next Saturday. Salford are 1.72 to win their opening game while Castleford can be backed at 2.10.

There's certainly no favouritism. If anything, he's probably a bit harder on me.

But the former Wigan Academy player says he isn't expecting an easy ride from the coaching staff, despite the blood relation.
"It's pretty professional between us when we're at work and then away from the club it's just the normal stuff you would do with your dad. There's certainly no favouritism. If anything, he's probably a bit harder on me," said Veivers.
"I suppose it's pretty tough for him but he treats me just like any other player. He coached me at Wigan when I was coming through the 20s. It's not a new experience but it's one that I'm looking forward to."
Last season, under Shaun McRae and Matt Parish, the Reds failed to meet their target of reaching the play-offs.
But off the field the club continues to move forward. Next Saturday's clash with Castleford is the first competitive match to take place at the Reds' new stadium in Barton.
Back on the field, Veivers is confident the club can be successful in 2012.
"I was a little late coming to the pre-season but I feel ready to go. All of us here are really looking forward to the first match against Cas and we're confident that we can upset a few teams and push for a spot in that top eight."
