Thaiday to cut down on jokes

Newly appointed Brisbane Broncos skipper Sam Thaiday has said that the added responsibility of leading his comrades doesn't mean that he will change his physical style of play but he has admitted that he may have to slightly alter his humorous attitude.

I will still be a bit of a character, I will just know when and when not to do those types of things."

Thaiday is fully aware that as the leader of the pack he can't be as light-hearted as he was before and he would have to strike a balance between authority and fun.
Brisbane Broncos are 7.00 to win the 2012 NRL Grand Final. Manly Sea Eagles can be backed at odds of 5.50, while Wests Tigers are available at 11.00.
In a recent interview, Thaiday said: "I know I have to lead by example more now that I am captain. I can't just always be Mister Happy-go-lucky and be joking around.
"There's times when I have to be serious. Rugby league has always been about fun for me and as soon as it's not fun, I will give it away.
"I still make it fun every day. I still enjoy getting up early in the morning and making sure my bag is packed and I'm ready to go to training.
"I don't think I will rule that out of my life or football career, I will still be a bit of a character, I will just know when and when not to do those types of things."
Thaiday also knows that that being the captain is about leading his players from the front, which is why he has put in extra work on his fitness during the pre-season training so that he remains at least on par (if not ahead) with the rest of his teammates.
