King's Grumeti handed a boost

Alan King's hopes of landing a third Cheltenham Triumph Hurdle with his hugely impressive Taunton winner Grumeti received a hidden boost at Plumpton yesterday.

He's a very likeable horse, but I don't think he's a Triumph Hurdle horse.

In a year when there is apparently no outstanding novice dominating the Cheltenham markets, the clue to this year's Triumph winner may lie in the strength in depth King appears to have.
Yesterday he sent out Henry San to win his first novice hurdle in the opener at the Sussex track, only a few weeks after Balder Succes had won and looked a likely Cheltenham contender - so impressive was he.
King has revealed since, however, that he doesn't believe that one will be part of his Festival plans declaring: "He's a very likeable horse, but I don't think he's a Triumph Hurdle horse.
"He didn't run on the Flat and may not have enough experience for that type of race."
Ten lengths behind Balder Succes was Nick Gifford's Specialagent Alfie who yesterday could only get to within eight of King's latest winner.
Grumeti is 6.00 to win the Triumph Hurdle, with Balder Succes 8.00 and Hinterland 1000.00.
