Danny Welbeck spent last season on loan with Sunderland.Danny Welbeck is set to be asked to prevent Manchester United's Champions League dreams from turning into a nightmare against Basel this week.
The United starlet has not started a game since he suffered a muscle injury on England duty last month, but impressed on his comeback when he came on for the final 15 minutes in the 1-0 victory at Aston Villa over the weekend.
Welbeck will report back to the club's Carrington training base later today to ensure he has suffered no after-effects, with a possible view to him leading the line against the Swiss side, in a game United still need a point from to guarantee qualification.
United are 7.00 to win the game 1-0, with Welbeck 6.50 to open the scoring in Switzerland.

Sir Alex Ferguson needs to fill the striker void left by the ankle injury Javier Hernandez sustained at Villa Park, which is expected to keep the Mexican on the sidelines for the next month.
There are also rumblings Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov could make a surprise return from an ankle injury, but sources at the club have indicated his chances are still rated at only 50/50.
Welbeck is highly-rated by Sir Alex, who is well aware it would be a big call to entrust United's hopes to the young frontman, albeit supported by an experienced cast.
Ferguson admits: "Danny got some time on the pitch at Villa, and he gives us an option for Wednesday. He's not had a lot of football recently so it is something I will have to consider.
"We're having a torrid time with injuries at the moment, but we've also got Darren Fletcher available and we didn't want to use Ryan Giggs against Villa because of the importance of Wednesday."
United can be backed at 1213.00 to win the Champions League and, after the weekend results, are 7.50 to finish top of the Premier League table once again.
