Alberto Malesani had only been in charge of Genoa for six months.Mid-table Genoa have named Pasquale Marino as their new manager after sacking Alberto Malesani who had been in charge for just six months.
The club decided to axe Malesani after the midweek 6-1 defeat against Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo which left the Rossoblu tenth in the Serie A table.

A club statement read: "Genoa CFC announces that it has entrusted responsibility of the first team to Pasquale Marino, who will be presented to the media on the occasion of the resumption of training, scheduled for 29th December, at the Centro Sportivo Gianluca Signorini.
"The new coach has signed a contract until 30th June 2013. The club thanks former coach Alberto Malesani, his assistant Ezio Sella and backroom staff Paolo Aiello and Antonio Raione for the work they have done in the past months and for the relationships established at the club during their stay in Genoa."

Genoa have won six of their 16 Serie A matches so far this season but have managed to score only 19 times.
Malesani, 57, has a wealth of coaching experience having been in charge of Chievo, Fiorentina, Parma, Verona, Modena, Panathinaikos, Udinese, Empoli, Siena and Bologna in the past.
