Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish said it was better to be 'in the competition than out of it' after seeing his side win 2-1 at Stoke City in the fourth round of the Carling Cup.
Luis Suarez was in superb form to help Liverpool to victory at Stoke City.Luis Suarez was the Reds' matchwinner with both goals at the Britannia Stadium, the second of which came five minutes from time to send Liverpool through to the last eight - with Dalglish's men 1.11 to go on and win the competition.
Dalglish told his club's official website: "We've got our reward, we are in the hat for the next round. We can now get ourselves dusted down for another difficult game at West Brom.
"But certainly it's better to be in the competition than out of it. We always try to be respectful to the competition and I think Stoke were too - there were two strong teams out on the pitch."
In particular, Dalglish was pleased with his side's battling qualities, especially after they fell behind just before half-time when Kenwyne Jones struck.
He added: "Every win is important, but I think the most important thing was that we hung on in there. You're not going to come here and go away unscathed.

Certainly it's better to be in the competition than out of it.

"We're disappointed to lose any goal, but the way they came back from it is more important to us. It's never the mistake, it's the way they reacted to it."
Next up for the Reds is a Saturday teatime clash with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns, with the hosts 6.00 to gain a 1-1 draw, while Liverpool are 9.50 to win 2-0 and 2.75 to keep a clean sheet.
