Abidal commits to Barcelona future

French left-back Eric Abidal has disappointed potential Premier League suitors by agreeing a one-year contract extension with European champions Barcelona.
French defender Eric Abidal has extended his contract with Barcelona.The 32-year-old is now under contract at the Camp Nou until the summer of 2013, with an option in place for a further two years, meaning that he is unlikely to consider a move to England.
The likes of Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Abidal in the past, but the Frenchman is set to stay put at Barca, having joined the Spanish giants in 2007 from Lyon.
A Barca club statement confirmed: "Barcelona announce they have reached an agreement with Eric Abidal to renew his contract with the club for more more season, until June 30, 2013.
"The agreement includes the provision to extend it until 2015, with automatic annual renovations during those two seasons."
Abidal and Barca's immediate priority will be to try and close down deadly rivals Real Madrid in the race for the Spanish title, with the latter currently five points ahead of the reigning champions.
Barcelona are 34.00 to win a fourth straight La Liga crown, with Real 1.005 to take the honours for the first time since the 2007/08 season.
Abidal and co are also hoping to retain their Champions League crown this season, with Barca 1213.00 to be crowned European champions for the third time in four years.
