Borussia Dortmund's chances of retaining the Bundesliga title they secured last season were boosted by the 5-0 demolition of Cologne.
Robert Lewandowski scored twice in the romp.Dortmund have struggled in the first three months of the campaign with balancing the demands of domestic and Champions League action, but were back to their best against Cologne, according to captain Sebastian Kehl.
It was the perfect response to the midweek defeat to Olympiacos in Europe's premier competition with Shinji Kagawa, Marcel Schmelzer, Robert Lewandowski (two) and Kehl all getting on the scoresheet.
After moving up to second in the table behind Bayern Munich, Kehl said: "We showed a reaction. We returned from Greece on Wednesday with fire in our bellies and we knew that we had made a real mess of things.
"We keep asking ourselves why we are not able to perform like this in Europe because we are well on our way in the Bundesliga."
