India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni has revealed he would consider stepping down as captain of the national side should an improved replacement be found.
MS Dhoni is willing to step aside as captain of India. The wicketkeeper has endured a torrid time as skipper, having seen his side lose their position at the top of the world rankings after a disappointing summer against England.
Now India have just come off the back of a 4-0 Test series defeat to Australia Down Under and serious questions have been raised regarding the current crop of players in the Asian outfit.
Dhoni has admitted the side has fallen short of its high standards in recent months and would step aside from his role within the team if it was in the country's best interests.
He said: "At the end of the day, you want India to perform. If there is someone who can do a better job, then it's a place that should be given to him.
"It's not something you have to cling on to. It's not a position that belongs to anyone.
"The responsibility was given to me three-and-half years back and I have been trying to fit into the shoes, trying to get along with the team and perform well wherever we play."
India are currently preparing for their Twenty20 encounters against Australia with Dhoni and his men at 5.00 to win the series, 2.50 to lose and 2.10 to draw.
