A sensational innings from David Warner despatched holders Chennai Super Kings from the Champions League.
He smashed 135 and backed that up with two fine catches and a bullet-like return to effect a run out.
New South Wales Blues' comprehensive victory also eliminated Trinidad & Tobago, who were arguably the toughest team to play in Group A.
They finally saw their batting function properly and their bowling was the outstanding outfit in the competition. They twice almost defended 100, doing it successfully once.
The opening bowling of Ravi Rampaul was top-class but the one trophy the side may win will go to Sunil Narine.
Narine is the leading wicket taker in the competition and took the vital wicket of Dane Vilas who made 54 and added 87 with Owais Shah who was undefeated on 63.
Darren Bravo and Kevon Cooper then provided the runs which sent Cape Cobras home.
Mumbai Indians finish as runners-up in the group after they sat out the final round and were rewarded by a set of results which sees them travel to Bangalore for their semi-final.
New South Wales will remain in Chennai and await the outcome of Group B to find out who will be runners-up and face the Australians, with the Blues 1213.00 to win the competition, Mumbai Indians 2.10 and Somerset 4.50.
