England batsman Jonathan Trott has agreed a new three-year contract with Warwickshire to ensure that he brings up a decade of service at Edgbaston.
Jonathan Trott believes Warwickshire can challenge for honours next summer. The 30-year-old right-hander joined the Bears in 2002 and has emerged as a major player on both the domestic and international stages.
Trott marked his Test debut for England with a century in the final match of the 2009 Ashes series against Australia and has been a key figure for Andrew Strauss' side ever since.
Although Trott is unlikely to feature too much for his county due to his international commitments, the South Africa-born star is backing the Bears to challenge for honours next summer.
He told his county's official website: "We've got an exciting young squad that's capable of challenging for trophies, an experienced and innovative coaching team, and some of the best facilities in world cricket."
Warwickshire are 2.62 to win County Championship Division One next year, with Somerset 7.50 and Nottinghamshire 4.00.
Meanwhile, Somerset have agreed a deal with South Africa's rising star Vernon Philander for him to be their overseas player for the first two months of the 2012 season.
The 26-year-old has taken a five-wicket haul in an innings in each of his first three Test matches and is highly rated both at home and abroad.
Somerset's director of cricket Brian Rose told the county's official website: "His all-round ability will be a great asset in our side and I'm sure our supporters will be engaged by his infectious personality."
