Nottinghamshire have signalled their intent for the 2012 county season by signing England batsman James Taylor on a three-year contract from Leicestershire.
James Taylor has agreed a three-year deal to join Nottinghamshire. The 21-year-old right-hander, who made his ODI debut against Ireland in August, is rated as one of the brightest talents in the English game and his arrival at Trent Bridge, along with Hampshire's Michael Lumb, will give Notts a much stronger batting unit.
Notts' director of cricket, Mick Newell, told the county's official website: "James is already on England's radar and we hope that he can play a part for us on his way to realising his international ambitions.
"We lost Mark Wagh and Ali Brown last season, but James and Michael are fitting replacements and they were our primary targets."
Notts are 4.00 to win the County Championship Division One title next season and their bid for success will be further boosted by the news that Samit Patel has withdrawn from the reckoning for the IPL, to focus on his international ambitions.

James is already on England's radar and we hope that he can play a part for us on his way to realising his international ambitions.
Mick Newell
Newell added: "Samit has got himself back into England's limited-overs teams, but he feels that he can become a Test regular and it goes without saying that scoring a high volume of runs for Nottinghamshire will help him to achieve his ambition.
"Staying away from the IPL this year is a mature decision and one that we hope will benefit Samit's career and improve our prospects in the Championship."
Lancashire are 17.00 to defend their County Championship crown successfully next summer, with Warwickshire 2.62.
