Australia opening batsman Phil Hughes is looking forward to an extended spell in England with Worcestershire next summer.
Phil Hughes is relishing the chance to shine with Worcestershire. The 23-year-old left-hander, who has previously played for both Middlesex and Hampshire, should arrive at New Road in early June to feature in all forms of the game for the Pears, who narrowly avoided relegation back to County Championship Division Two.
Hughes, whose place in the Australia side is under threat after a run of low scores, told his new county's official website: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be heading back to England in 2012. I can't wait to meet my new team-mates and re-acquaint myself with English conditions.
"My previous stint in England helped my batting enormously and I have high expectations that spending the 2012 Australian winter in the UK will do the same.
"I look forward to helping Worcestershire be a force in all forms of the game in 2012."
Director of cricket Steve Rhodes added: "To gain the signature of the current Australian Test match opener is a tremendous boost for the club and the players for the 2012 season."
Worcestershire are 34.00 to win the Twenty20 Cup next summer, while they are 101.00 to win the first division of the County Championship for the first time since 1999.
