English county side Derbyshire have announced that they have retained the services of Australian middle-order batsman Usman Khawaja for this year's domestic cricketing season.
Khawaja spent two months playing for Derbyshire last year, when he featured in four innings for them and scored at a rate of 39.87 runs per innings. The Pakistan-born batsman will link up with his Derbyshire teammates on June 14 and will play for them for the remainder of their season.
Perth Scorchers are 1.66 to defeat Sydney Sixers, who themselves are 2.20 to get the win in the upcoming Big Bash League final.
Speaking about Khawaja, Derbyshire coach Karl Krikken said, "Usman is a talented and prolific batsman with an excellent future. We are delighted."
The 25-year old lefty has played 26 Sheffield Shield matches on the Australian domestic circuit in his career. He has scored 2,087 runs at an incredible average of 53.51, which has also earned him six Test matches for his national side.
"We were hugely impressed with Usman during his previous spell with the club and the 2012 season will give him the opportunity of settling into a longer spell and hopefully scoring plenty of runs," Krikken added.

Usman is a talented and prolific batsman with an excellent future. We are delighted.

But there is still time before Khawaja heads to the UK because of his local commitments. Until then, Derbyshire's overseas player spot will be occupied by Kiwi international Martin Guptill.
Derbyshire chairman Chris Grant chipped in and said, "It's good to have our overseas berth sorted for the coming season and I'm excited by the prospect of both Martin and Usman returning. They will be better players from the experience of last season and we know what we are getting in terms of their attitude, professionalism and contribution."
