Khan told to forget Mayweather

Ricky Hatton believes Amir Khan should avoid taking on Floyd Mayweather this year as he bids to get his career back on track.
Khan controversially lost his WBA and IBF titles to Lamont Peterson in December but is still keen to fight the man seen by many as the best in the world.

I think Amir needs two or three fights to get himself re-established and get his confidence back.

However, Hatton says a fight against Mayweather could be counter-productive for Khan, and has urged the Bolton-born former champion to think again. The American is trying to set up a fight with Manny Pacquiao, which he would be 1.53 to win, while Pacquiao is at 2.50.
Hatton, who was defeated by Mayweather in 2007, told the Daily Star Sunday: "I think Amir needs two or three fights to get himself re-established and get his confidence back. Then maybe he'll fight the winner of Pacquiao and Mayweather next year.
"If Amir could put in a good performance against Peterson he will improve his position when he sits down at the negotiating table."
Should Khan's rematch against Peterson go ahead, the Englishman can be backed at 1.20 while Peterson is at 4.50.
