Ricky Hatton believes Amir Khan has the tools needed to have a chance of ending Floyd Mayweather Jr's 42-fight unbeaten streak.
Amir Khan has become a huge star across the pond in the last 12 months. The Bolton-born fighter was named British boxer of the year this week after a fantastic last 12 months, which has included getting the better of Marcos Maidana in the fight of the year and defeating Zab Judah in July.
Having unified the light-welterweight division Khan is looking to round off the year with a successful defence of his WBA and IBF titles against Lamont Petersen in Washington next month.
Should Khan defeat Peterson then he could face Timothy Bradley in another unification bout at the start of next year.
However, 'Desert Storm' is seemingly less than keen to fight Khan and if they can't agree to fight then the British fighter is likely to make the step up to the 147-pound division.
Khan is eager to go up to welterweight as he eyes a career-defining fight against Mayweather in the latter part of 2012.
One man who knows Mayweather well is Hatton, who lost his unbeaten record against 'Pretty Boy' in 2007.
The Hitman is amazed at how far Khan has come recently and believes he has a great chance of doing what he couldn't, beating Mayweather.

Floyd likes fighters coming straight at him and Amir has the style to challenge Floyd.
Ricky Hatton
“He has become a formidable boxer. Amir has that in-out style which could give [Floyd] Mayweather problems.
“Floyd likes fighters coming straight at him and Amir has the style to challenge Floyd.
“I’m not saying he would beat Floyd but I think he has a good chance. I’m a huge fan of Amir and how much hard work he has put into his career to get to the top of the sport.”
Khan is 1.083 to beat Peterson in his next fight, with the American 8.00 to cause an upset.
