Carl Froch believes he has the psychological edge heading into his huge super-middleweight unification bout with Andre Ward on Saturday night.
Carl Froch has only been beaten once in his previous 29 fights. The Cobra will step into the ring in Atlantic City looking to do what no man has managed to do yet in beating Olympic gold medallist Ward.
Ward will be putting his WBA title on the line, while Froch will be looking to defend his WBC title as arguably the two best fighters in the super-middleweight division get it on.
The bout will also decide the winner of the Super Six tournament, both men having beaten the likes of Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham and Glen Johnson to reach this stage.
The fight was originally scheduled to take place in October but Ward had to pull out after sustaining a bad cut above his right eye while sparring which required seven stitches.
The California-based fighter claims his injury has healed up, but Froch believes the residual effects could work in his favour.
Ward has been accused of headbutting in previous fights, something Froch believes he won't be able to do given his recent injury.
"It might slow down his use of the head a bit because there is scar tissue above his eye that could potentially open back up," Froch stated.
The two have spent the week verbally sparring at press conferences and 34-year-old Froch claims he has the psychological edge heading into Saturday's clash.
“It possibly says something about his mindset that he postponed the fight," said the Englishman.
"But not too much. He had a bad cut, he needed seven stitches so he felt he wasn't going to be ready because he couldn't spar in the build-up to the fight. So fair enough, everybody's different."
Froch is 3.00 to cause what would be an upset this weekend, with Ward 1.40 to put a second lose on Froch's career record.
