Richmond Tigers' player Trent Cotchin believes that his club is ready to step up its game this season and qualify for the AFL finals.
Cotchin, who has been appointed the club vice-captain for the 2012 season, said that he and his teammates have trained hard under their senior coach Damien Hardwick and the squad is now at a level where they can make a genuine push for the finals qualification.
Richmond Tigers are 51.00 to win the 2012 AFL Grand Final. Melbourne Demons can be backed at odds of 5001.00, while Geelong Cats are available at 12.00.
Speaking in a recent interview, Cotchin confidently declared: "I think it's the real deal, now. We've started from scratch and built from pretty much the bottom. We're just looking forward to taking the season full on from the start and making sure we give ourselves the best opportunity each game."
When the Tigers last played in the finals, the year was 2001. A decade has passed since and Cotchin claims that there is no reason why they can't reach the finals this time around.
"We've had a couple of really good developing years, and it's time we started taking those steps forward. I'm not going to get hung up over talking about finals before the season even starts, but it will be interesting to see where we're at, against the better sides especially early in the season," he added.
"Hopefully we can set a standard that takes us forward and we do play finals at the end of the season. If the players are playing the way that the coaches are coaching we should be in a good position come the end of the season."
